Work stoppages begin for summer on line L4 of the Barcelona metro and T4 of the tram

On Monday, June 26, the strikes begin due to summer works on line 4 of the Barcelona metro and T4 of the Tram. As detailed by Transportes Metropolitanos de Barcelona (TMB) in a statement, works will be carried out six kilometers from the yellow line, between Bogatell and Verdaguer, until August 25. As for the tram, the interventions will affect the entire T4 line and will last until the end of the month. To compensate for the effects on mobility, the metro service will be reinforced throughout the network. Some shuttle bus services are also enabled to cover the affected sections. "Citizens are recommended to leave in advance and find out in advance about the alternatives to make the journey," adds the company.

In the case of the metro, the work will be carried out in two phases between June 26 and August 25. The first stage will leave the line without service between Ciutadella I Vila Olímpica and Girona from June 26 to July 31. The following day, August 1, and until the 28th of the same month, the second phase will begin, which, in this case, reduces the section of line affected: it will be without service from Jaume I to Girona. With regard to the tramway, the works are related to the works to connect the services to the Diagonal.

As explained by TMB, the stoppage of the Tram will be compensated with a special bus service between Glòries and Sant Adrià Station. In total it will have nine stops: Ca l'Aranyó, Pere IV, Fluvià, Selva de Mar, El Maresme, Fòrum, Campus Diagonal-Besòs, Port Fòrum and Estación de Sant Adrià. This service will have the same operating hours as the tram. As for the L4, a bus service will also be launched with an interval of between 3 and 4 minutes, although it is recommended to use other metro lines, such as the L2.

As explained by those responsible for the works at the beginning of the month, L4 is reaching the end of its useful life and, specifically, the section affected by the works concentrates 67% of the incidents on the line. The reason for these affectations is closely related to the fact that part of the line is below sea level, a situation that generates a corrosive effect generated by seawater that forces many night maintenance tasks to be carried out.
