When will the San Martín summer end?

The San Martín summer of 2023 is the "warmest since 1950", with records of "unusually high" temperatures for this time of year. But when will it end?... Because this Wednesday afternoon some signs were seen on the Mediterranean coast, such as in Baix Llobregat, that perhaps mid-autumn was returning or even that it was going to rain.

But, in reality, the summer could continue breaking temperature records until the weekend, until the thermometers plummet and return to their normal values, as reported by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

The spokesperson for the AEMET, Rubén del Campo, has confirmed that the past 11, 12, 13 and 14 November have been the warmest for these dates in the whole of peninsular Spain at least since 1950 and he predicts that until the end During the week, some more records will be broken, especially on Saturday and Sunday when a new rise in thermometers is expected.

Even this past Tuesday, temperatures exceeded 32ºC in Malaga and the Canary Islands, even though the AEMET has left out the record of 35.6ºC in Torremolinos on the 14th, as it is "suspicious data" as it differs from those recorded in nearby stations. In short, it has shown that in a large part of the eastern third of the peninsula and in the south the maximums were between 7 and 12ºC above normal on the 14th.

For the rest of the week, the AEMET spokesperson expects a warmer environment than usual to remain, including the weekend when temperatures will rise again to be between 5 and 10ºC above normal for the time of year. large areas of the country with rains limited to Galicia and the Cantabrian Sea, which will also stop at the weekend.

After a long and dry "Saint Martin summer" it seems that little by little the weather scenario is changing, at least on the coast of Castelldefels.

Gradually the temperatures drop and dark clouds take over the horizon. Finally, true autumn is making its way and all we have to do is wait for some generous rains that will take us away from the feared restrictions.

At 6:30 p.m. this Wednesday, these views were visible from inside the apartment in Barcelona. The visual sensation was of snow.
