Water lily show in the lake of Banyoles

Water lilies are flowering aquatic plants that grow in lakes, ponds, ponds, swamps, or slow-flowing streams, usually rooted at the bottom.

They develop from a stem that grows among the materials accumulated at the bottom of ponds and stagnant shallow water courses.

It is often confused with the lotus, another quite similar aquatic plant. The difference between the two lies in the way in which its flower grows. While that of the water lily floats on the water, those of the lotus rise above it.

Banyoles Lake is the largest pond in Catalonia. It was part of the 1992 Olympics competitions. Going around it on foot is one of the activities that is worthwhile this spring, observing its rich fauna and flora. And discovering its beautiful water lilies.

Walking, distracted by the landscape, you cover the approximately 6 km of the circuit almost without realizing it. There are several very well indicated routes. There are walkways and viewpoints that border the lake and bring you closer to the water to be able to contemplate it.

These days the water is fantastic (tell the wading birds for a dip!) and even the surrounding wheat and barley fields invite you to gaze at the scenery. You can see the Canigó from the lake and the storks show us their young in their nests.
