Victòria Alsina: "Abandoning will lead us to irrelevance"

Victòria Alsina (Barcelona, 1983) has taken a decisive step forward and has formalized her militancy in Junts this weekend to defend continuity in the Government with a double message. To abandon is to squander the legacy of independence unity and it is also to leave society aside in very delicate moments due to the crisis.

He says that leaving the Government is for Junts a leap into the void.

It is important that the militancy ask itself if leaving the Government moves us away or brings us closer to independence. This question is transcendental because it is in the founding spirit of Junts. And a second question that must be asked is in the event that the Government is abandoned, what will happen the day after.

What would happen?

Today we are not in 2017, there is no cohesive movement, no clear map and it is a leap into the void that would take place eight months before the municipal ones. A jump that would lead us to be the third force in Parliament, the second in the opposition. Experience is stubborn and tells us that with this framework it is very likely that Junts will become an irrelevant party, that voters will not value it as a useful party. And from here it loses all visibility as a political space with only 32 deputies. All power would be given to ERC, the possibility of moving forward and explaining itself.

How do you weigh the criticism that from sectors of the independence movement have been launched against the Government in recent concentrations?

Many failures are attributed to the Government that are not of the Government but of political parties or parliamentary groups. If Junts leaves the Government, the last trench of the pro-independence majority is broken and together with the sacrifices that many people have made, the counter would be reset to zero and we would return to 2012. Independence will only be achieved jointly, Junts and ERC are condemned to be understood because the citizens have so decided, it is not optional. The Catalan folder can also be closed for many years. And the PSC, a party of 155, can govern.

Does the context of economic crisis influence?

It is irresponsible to resign from government obligations at a time of deep crisis, with many families in difficulty.

If Junts wins, will you rethink your role in the Government?

All the work of the ministries, which have a dual national and sectoral role, must be valued. We need more political profile, a strong vice presidency that highlights this political profile. Staying in the Government does not mean that everything remains the same. A new stage must be resumed in the Government in which the culture of the coalition is improved. Junts has an improvement framework, and ERC, which has blamed us, a lot.

In May there are municipal elections. Could the Govern be broken later?

This folder must be closed until the end of the legislature. Only a year and a half has passed and many things can be done in four years. The implementation of the legislative pact must be improved. The Government is also a retaining wall, defending national rights, protecting linguistic rights, to avoid recentralization processes.

Do you see risk of rupture in Junts?

We will have to work accordingly with the results.
