Vergès urges Junts to overcome the interim presidency of the Parliament

Alba Vergès, the first vice-president of the Parliament, today acting as president after the suspension of Laura Borràs, has called on Junts to propose a solution to avoid interim presidency of the Catalan Chamber.

By virtue of the investiture agreement signed by ERC and Junts, it is the latter party that corresponds to the presidency of the Parliament, which is why Vergès has urged the coalition partner to resolve the situation.

“We will provide all the facilities so that this agreement can be fulfilled”, the vice-president stated in statements to Catalunya Ràdio.

Vergès added that nobody wants the situation of Borràs but he regretted that the Parliament of Catalonia and in particular the second Catalan institutional figure is now in an interim position.

Although ERC tries to be very prudent so as not to provoke a new incident, it is evident that the first partner of the Catalan coalition is bothered by Junts indefinitely postponing Borràs' position, suspended from rights and duties after the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia agreed to open an oral trial against her and two other people for an alleged case of corruption.

ERC would like Junts to be able to find a replacement for Borràs and turn the page on this episode, but until now the general secretary, Jordi Turull, has preferred not to confront the "laurista" sector and has given all his support to who, in addition, is a Today, she is also the president of the party. However, it does not seem that, come autumn, this position is politically sustainable.

ERC voted, together with the representatives of the PSC and the CUP, in favor of the suspension of Laura Borràs in application of the Parliament's regulations that establish that a deputy who is formally accused of corruption by a court must be suspended while the sentence is not final .

However, and despite the fact that the three groups add up to a sufficient majority at the table, ERC will not take a step to replace Borràs without the approval of Junts.
