"The Goya Awards in Valencia were a shock to boost the image of the city inside and outside of Spain," said Sandra Gómez, Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Development and Urban Renewal of the Valencia City Council. A recently presented report estimates the impact of the celebration of the Goya awards in the city of Valencia at 53.6 million euros and 11,645 appearances in the media between June 7, 2021 and March 2, 2022. The Film Academy chose València as the closing ceremony for 'Berlanga Year 2021', in commemoration of the centenary of the birth of film director Luis García Berlanga.

The economic impact and projection of the appearances in the media were 9,065 impacts in the digital press and 31 million euros, 433 impacts on the radio and 6 million euros, 241 on television and 4 million euros, and 1,906 impacts in the written press and 11 million euros. of euros. In this sense, the deputy mayor has assured: "The celebration marked the beginning of the emotional recovery of Valencian and Spanish society and had an impact on the tourist promotion of the city".

The deputy mayor has released these data on the occasion of the forthcoming start of the first edition of the Film Academy Summer Campus, organized by the City Council's Department of Economic Development, in collaboration with the Spanish Film Academy and the Netflix audiovisual platform. The initiative aims to support and encourage the work of young film directors focused on projects related to inclusion and diversity. . Among the eight projects selected to take part in this first edition there are two Valencian projects: 'L'aguait', by Marc Ortiz Paredes, and 'Karen y Julia', by José Ignacio Sánchez Arrieta.

"This project will allow us to continue showing the diversity of polycentric and polyphonic Spain from a Valencian point of view; and, at the same time, we are going to continue the work started in 2015 to turn Valencia into a film setting and give visibility to the audiovisual industry Valencian", assured Gómez.
