The number of unemployed registered in the Public Employment Services in the Community of Madrid increased in March with respect to February by 1,013 people, 0.32% more, up to 314,982 unemployed.
According to data from the Ministry of Employment and Social Security made public this Tuesday, compared to March 2022, 24,241 fewer unemployed people have been registered in the region, which represents a year-on-year decrease of 7.15%.
Regarding the number of Social Security affiliates in the Madrid region, it stood at 3,532,391 workers in March, 23,660 more (0.67%) than in February, while compared to March 2022 there are 135,793 more affiliates (4 ,00%).
In the country as a whole, Social Security gained an average of 206,410 affiliates in March, the largest increase for this month in the entire historical series; while unemployment fell by 48,755 people, to 2.86 million, the lowest figure for a March since 2008.
This advance of the occupation leaves the total number of average affiliates at 20,376,552, the highest in the series, which began to be published in those average numbers in 2001.
Regarding the number of people registered in the offices of the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), the Ministry of Labor highlights that the drop in unemployment in March, a month in which hiring begins to be activated in the face of the strongest months of the tourist season, is "especially positive" in an economic context of uncertainty.
Back in the Community of Madrid, in March there were 3,109,365 workers registered in the general Social Security regime, 419,410 self-employed, 3,616 in the special marine regime and none in the coal regime.
Within the general scheme, 2,052 people contributed to the Special Agrarian Service and 103,126 to the Home Service.
In addition, of the 314,982 registered unemployed at the end of March, 128,162 were men and 186,820 women; and 23,162 were under 25 years of age, 12,166 men and 10,996 women.
Among the unemployed in Madrid, 53,679 are foreigners, which is 754 more than in February, 1.42% more, and 847 less than twelve months ago, 1.55% less.
Registered unemployment in the Community fell in two sectors: Construction (74 fewer unemployed, leaving the total unemployed in the sector at 22,702 people) and Agriculture (6 fewer unemployed, adding a total of 2,445).
It increased in the rest of the sectors, especially in the group without previous employment (714 new unemployed, up to a total of 22,136), in Services (263 new unemployed, 249,858 in total) and in Industry (116 more unemployed, up to 17,841).
Among the 22,136 unemployed people from the group without previous employment, 3,095 were under 20 years of age; 4,071 between 20 and 24; 2,539 between 25 and 29; 5,339 between 30 and 44, and 7,092 were older than 44 years.
The number of contracts carried out in March was 180,419, 19,695 more than the previous month, 12.25% more, and there were 53,760 less, 22.96% less, than in March 2022.
Of the total contracts, 97,348 were permanent and 83,071 temporary.
In the Community of Madrid, at the end of February, there were 173,219 beneficiaries of unemployment benefits, with a total monthly expenditure of 211.9 million euros.
