The number of currently unemployed people in the Valencian Community is the lowest since October 2008, standing at a total of 330,918, after the drop in unemployment in May, according to data provided by the Generalitat.

Unemployment has fallen in the Valencian Community by 4,526 people in May, which represents a decrease of 1.35% compared to April. The total number of unemployed stands at 330,918, according to data released this Friday by the Ministry of Labor.

"The current situation is infinitely better than in 2015. We have been able to deploy a new model of active employment policies, positioning the Valencian employment service Labora as a benchmark for serving people and the Valencian productive fabric", highlights the secretary regional Employment Department, Enric Nomdedéu in a statement.

The drop in unemployment in May has focused on the services, construction and industry sectors, as well as in the younger age groups and in the province of Alicante before the start of the summer tourist campaign.

As a balance, in the first five months of the year, the number of unemployed people in the Valencian Community has fallen by 6.18% (-21,793).

Of the 330,918 unemployed in the Community, 128,564 are men, 202,354 are women and 20,541 are young people under 25 years of age. In the month of May, 123,583 contracts were made in the three provinces, 20,173 more than in the month of April, with an increase of 19.51%, although compared to a year earlier there has been a decrease of 40,644 contracts, which represents a 24 ,35% less.

Of these 123,583 contracts, 65,079 were permanent (25,963 in Alicante, 7,118 in Castellón and 31,998 in Valencia) and 58,504 temporary (18,538 in Alicante, 5,968 in Castellón and 33,998 in Valencia).

By provinces, registered unemployment in the province of Alicante is 134,715 people, 52,721 of them men, 81,994 women and 7,563 under 25 years of age. In Castellón there are 35,577 unemployed, of them 13,956 men, 21,621 women and 2,544 under 25 years of age. And in Valencia there are 160,626 registered unemployed, of them 61,887 men, 98,739 women and 10,434 young people under 25 years of age.

By economic activity, unemployment in the Community is higher in the services (with 231,147 unemployed) and industry (40,754) sectors, followed by construction (with 25,132 unemployed), without previous employment (23,786) and agriculture (with 10,099 unemployed). .

Unemployment also fell among foreigners residing in the Community, as it fell by 935 people, standing at 58,187 claimants at the end of May, 1.58 5 less compared to April, although it is 0.54% higher than twelve years ago. months. Most of the foreign unemployed come from non-EU countries with 36,442 applicants, while the rest, 21,745 people, are from European Union countries.
