Ukrainian cargo plane crashes in northeast Greece

A Ukrainian cargo plane with eight crew members on board has crashed this Saturday night in the vicinity of the Greek town of Paleochori (Kavala), in the northeast of the country, local authorities have reported to the ANA-MPA news agency. .

The agency collects from sources close to the Civil Aviation Authority that the pilot of the damaged plane, an Antonov An-12, had reported an engine failure for which he requested authorization for an emergency landing, but that he did not manage to reach the airport some for having caught fire one of its propellants, and crashed shortly after.

The damaged plane was traveling from Serbia to Jordan. Eight crew members were traveling in the device and early Sunday morning their status was unknown as was the merchandise they were transporting.

The information agency indicated that numerous fire rescue personnel, ambulances from the National Emergency Center (EKAB) and police officers are at the scene, and that the area is in darkness due to a power outage.

The agency notes that eyewitnesses recorded videos showing the fall of a burning object, with subsequent explosions, which caused a large fire in the area.
