UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman resigns

The siege tightens around British Prime Minister Liz Truss. Despite the fact that this Wednesday she herself proclaimed that she would not give in and she defined herself as a "fighter", it seems that her problems are piling up. The crisis of her government has experienced a new chapter today with the resignation of the Minister of the Interior, Suella Braverman, according to the British media.

Braverman's farewell is the second major farewell in less than a week, after Truss sacked Finance Minister Kwasi Kwarteng. Britain's The Guardian newspaper quoted sources as saying his resignation was "at the behest" of Kwarteng's replacement and new cabinet strongman, Jeremy Hunt. The former Minister of Transport, Grant Shapps, would be the man destined to replace Braverman, according to the same sources.

It is not yet clear whether Braverman, a popular figure on the right wing of the ruling Conservative Party, has resigned or been sacked by Truss. The former minister is a staunch defender of more restrictive immigration policies.
