Two elderly people killed in the fire at their apartment in Madrid

A man and a woman, both 85 years old, have died in the fire that occurred around ten to eight in the morning this Friday in their Madrid apartment.

The flames have devoured the house located on the fifth floor of a seven-story building on Calle de Almería, located in the vicinity of the Las Ventas bullring.

As reported to Efe by a spokesman for Madrid Emergencies, the firefighters have managed to remove the bodies of both victims from the house, but the Samur doctors have only been able to confirm the deaths.

After extinguishing the fire, the firefighters continue to inspect the building, at number 6 Calle de Almería, while the causes of the fire are investigated. The rest of the residents remained confined to their homes for security reasons, although none of them had to be evicted from their home.

The fire has caused a huge column of smoke visible from different parts of the capital, as several witnesses have collected through social networks.
