The Civil Guard has arrested two men, aged 68 and 64, who are accused of causing at least five forest fires in the limits of the Doñana National Park, and where specimens of Iberian lynx live, which devastated around one hundred hectares.

In a statement, the Civil Guard has reported that the fires burned different areas located in La Dehesa de Abajo, Brazo de la Torre and the limits of the Doñana Natural Park, areas of enormous ecosystem value, in which endangered species live. extinction, in addition to the lynx, such as the Iberian Imperial Eagle, .

Both the 68-year-old detainee and the 64-year-old investigated are residents of Isla Mayor (Seville) and are not related to each other in terms of the facts under investigation.

The alleged perpetrators of these intentional fires could face prison sentences of one to five years and a fine of 12 to 18 months, according to what is stipulated in the current penal code, as well as pecuniary sanctions determined by the affected administrative regulations and the payment of expenses incurred by extinguishing the fire.

The investigation has been carried out through the collaboration of the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Civil Guard and Environmental Agents of the Government of Andalusia, who maintain coordinated actions in the prevention and fight against forest fires that affect, in this case, to the entire provinces of Seville and Huelva.
