Twelve years in prison for beating his roommate to death in Castellón

The Second Section of the Provincial Court of Castellón has sentenced a man who killed his roommate after hitting him multiple times with an unknown object during the early morning of March 22, 2022 to 12 years in prison for the crime of homicide. .

The account of proven facts of the sentence reflects the content of the verdict issued by a popular jury on May 10, after the conclusion of the trial.

According to that story, the convicted man and the deceased had an argument in the second man's room, in the apartment they both shared in the city of Castellón, between 3:30 and 4 in the morning. In the course of that assault, the defendant began to assault the victim, who tried to flee the home by going down the stairs but was hit again on a small landing located between the ground floor and the first floor.

There the blows with an unknown object continued. The injured party then managed to get down by himself or was brought down by the defendant to the landing on the ground floor of the building, where he was left lying on the ground while the attacker cleaned up the blood stains.

A neighbor of the building who had heard the screams went down to the landing on the ground floor to see what was happening and found the wounded man lying on the floor with blood on his head, unable to get up or speak. As stated in the sentence, this neighbor asked the defendant to call an ambulance, but the latter responded in such a way that he made him understand that the injured man was drunk, that he had fallen down the stairs and that he himself would help him.

However, the aggressor did not notify the emergency services at any time or provide any help to the victim, "knowing that due to the state he was in and the situation he was presenting, he was necessarily going to die," the court ruling states. The body of the deceased was found around 6 a.m. that same day on a public highway, at the height of the door of a community garage, naked except for a T-shirt that he was wearing and with abundant signs of violence.

The magistrate who presided over this trial by jury has now imposed 12 years in prison on the defendant as the perpetrator of a crime of homicide and has ratified the precautionary measure of provisional detention, communicated and without bail adopted against him at the time.

The sentence, which does not establish any civil liability derived from the crime, since no amount has been requested for this concept, is not final and can be appealed before the Civil and Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community .
