Turull gains momentum with the support of the militancy in the new stage of Junts

The new secretary general of Junts per Catalunya, Jordi Turull, has gained momentum this Saturday at the meeting meeting of his formation after being the leader who has attracted the most support in the votes, ahead of the new president of the party, Laura Borràs.

On paper, there was little at stake in the Argelers meeting because the distribution of power and the positions of the new leadership had already been agreed upon in advance, by the agreement sealed by both leaders; but the cotton of the vote, since the agreed candidacy was not decided en bloc but in different ballot boxes, allowed to put a thermometer to the militancy of JxCat.

Firstly because of participation, which in the best of cases has not exceeded 38%, and secondly because it has allowed us to see how many votes each leader adds. And the former minister has had 1,854, by the 1,776 that the also president of the Parliament has joined, who has also been surpassed by one of the vice presidents, the deputy and mayor of Vic, Anna Erra (1,791), and has been third. In the days prior to the congressional event, the issue of the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes, for which Borràs is being investigated in the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia, has not gone unnoticed. The possibility of a "punishment vote" was on the table and yesterday's joint letter from the two leaders did not have the desired effect. That vote, or rather, the absence of it, was the militant's only tool to show his discontent in this atypical event.

The reading, despite the fact that the margin has not been very large, is that the sector related to the former minister gains positions for what is to come, the second phase of the congress, in which the roadmap and other relevant issues such as the policy of pacts for the next electoral cycle or what to do with those that are now in force.

One of the mantras of the weeks prior to the agreement between the two leaders was that the former minister, very cheered today, had broad support in the most institutional cadres and that the president of the Catalan Chamber was sweeping the grassroots. Nobody wanted there to be a pulse – to avoid the risk of rupture and confrontation – but today the photograph blurs the description of a few weeks ago.

The conclave of Argelers, more than a congress, has been a political act in which the outgoing leadership, which once took command on a set, has been able to say goodbye in style, in an emotional atmosphere. And the former president of the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, has been, together with the former minister Toni Comín, the most energetic with his speech, very critical of the Government of Pedro Sánchez and also with the strategy of his partners, Esquerra Republicana. A dynamic that has occurred several times during the appointment in the different parliaments.

“Some settle in normality, reconciliation and a pacification that allows them to get along if they want to strengthen a party and prioritize the well-being of their cadres. But it has catastrophic consequences for citizens”, he has said about the ERC strategy, to whom he has also warned that “there is nothing more irresponsible, magical and fanciful than doing politics of normal times in serious times”.

On the other hand, the former president has accused the central Executive of making a "dirty campaign" to Salvador Illa, of the PSC, with investments and non-compliance in budget execution.

“It punishes all of us Catalans because we maintained the pro-independence majority. He is campaigning dirty for Mr. Illa. As long as we don't vote for the right candidate, they won't give us the treatment we deserve", lamented Puigdemont, who exclaimed "damn, that's enough!" when addressing this issue, a fact that has caused a resounding ovation among those attending the conclave.

Regarding internal affairs, the until now president of Junts, who was never very interested in them, has asked that the brand that gave birth in 2020 continue to be recognized, "with the same project and purpose" that it had two years ago. years. Be that as it may, it has been clear in all the interventions that his figure transcends organic positions and that he will continue to be a reference and a beacon in the formation as president of the Consell per la República.

Despite the fact that the first part of the Junts congress has been approached as a rally after the pact between families, today's vote was not entirely irrelevant since conditions had been established in the regulations, such as that the members of the executive obtain at least 50% of the votes cast; and the one designated as secretary of organization, David Torrents, as well as a member of the executive, Ester Vallès (both are related to Borràs), have not passed the cut by a little. However, according to sources consulted, there is an agreement to incorporate them into the leadership as well, an issue that can cause controversy if the militancy does not accept it and there are cadres who do not see with good eyes that what was voted is not respected. One of the vice presidents, Aurora Madaula, has met the requirements with very little margin, with only 21 votes. "Although they end up entering the leadership, they are marked and in a delicate position," predicted a member of the party.

On the other hand, there is the question of the former Minister of the Interior, Miquel Sàmper, who was a candidate for the executive but due to his positions in the Government, as a member of the legal advisory commission, he cannot be part of the leadership of a political party. Thus, he will have to choose. In the votes for the vice presidencies it has also been seen that the two candidates proposed by the already president of Junts have obtained less support.
