Turull does not see it as viable to support the sedition reform

The repeal of the crime of sedition with the consequent modification of the crime of public disorder in the Penal Code, agreed between the PSOE and Esquerra, has opened a new gap in the pro-independence ranks – mobilizations have already been called by some sovereignist entities such as the Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC) to express its rejection – and between its two main forces, ERC and Junts.

The general secretary of JxCat, Jordi Turull, has been "perplexed" this Sunday that an independentist formation - the Republicans - can approve the legislative changes. In an act in Terrassa, he also considered that if the modifications were certified in the terms now stipulated, "the 'for them' would be made official in the Penal Code", alluding to the chants that were uttered in some Spanish towns when the police officers departed. the State Security Forces and Bodies towards Catalonia before the 1-O referendum, in 2017.

Instead, the Republicans are pressing for their until recently partner in the Government to approve the repeal of sedition and the reform of the crime of aggravated public disorder in the Congress of Deputies.

Its deputy general secretary and spokesperson, Marta Vilalta, said this Sunday in an event in Vilafranca del Penedès that "it would be incomprehensible" that there are independentists "who do not celebrate the suppression of the crime of sedition".

The Councilor of the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà, has been more explicit in an interview in the Ara newspaper in which she says that it would be "absurd" for Junts not to approve the derogation that they have agreed with the Socialists.

This new clash could last for weeks, since the reform was processed on Friday in the Lower House as a bill and will go through several parliamentary phases until it has the definitive green light.
