Turnaround in the Daniel Sancho case: the defense relies on testimonies that confirm the alleged harassment he received from Edwin Arrieta

Daniel Sancho remains deprived of liberty in the Koh Samui prison, accused of the murder and dismemberment of Edwin Arrieta, awaiting the trial that could presumably arrive in January of next year. For these facts, the Spaniard could be sentenced to the death penalty or life imprisonment, although his lawyer is in the process of devising a strategy to reduce it.

So much so that, as Sonsoles Ónega's program progressed, there would be revealing testimonies that could help the Spaniard. The reason: they would be aware of the alleged harassment he received from Edwin Arrieta. That “I was his hostage” that Sancho referred to during his statement after the crime.

One of the key aspects for the investigators, as it will later be during the trial, is to demonstrate that Daniel Sancho acted with premeditation. That is to say, the chef previously planned - we do not know how far in advance - both the crime and the dismemberment of Edwin Arrieta.

At the moment, the evidence indicates this: the images from the security cameras, where you can see Daniel Sancho the day before and the car buying the instruments that he would use to perpetrate the crime; the images where he appears with the victim before murdering her; in addition to those where he is seen in the middle of the night getting rid of parts of the corpse.

However, the defense of Daniel Sancho, in this case, the legal representation in Spain at the hands of the law firm of Marcos García Montes (in Thailand they are still looking for a lawyer after the resignation of the previous one), is clear about a possible strategy that could turn around. to the case and the situation of the confessed murderer.

As explained by Y Ahora Sonsoles, a crucial part would be Daniel Sancho's friends, as they were aware of the alleged harassment that he suffered from Edwin Arrieta. "I'm guilty. But I was his hostage,” declared the Spaniard once arrested.

“This is important because they can testify at the trial, and in fact I think some are going to do so, and justify that this harassment existed and that it could be the most valuable mitigating circumstance for Daniel's defense in that trial. Probably, of all Daniel's testimonies, hers may be the most important,” justified Nacho Gay, one of the collaborators during the program.

"What his friends do know is that, at one point in that relationship with Edwin, he tells them: 'He is overwhelming me, he is trying to pressure me to have certain sexual benefits,'" the journalist said.
