Turisme de Barcelona proposes Mateu Hernández as new general director

This afternoon, the executive committee of Turisme de Barcelona proposed the appointment of Mateu Hernández as general director of the tourism consortium. The incorporation of Hernández will formally take place once it is ratified by the General Council of the public-private entity, which will be held next December.

The incorporation of Hernández occurs a month and a half after the changes in the leadership of Turisme de Barcelona precipitated after the elections for the presidency of the Chamber of Barcelona. The new president Josep Santacreu, in one of his first decisions, replaced the hotelier Eduard Torres at the head of the tourism consortium. His place was taken by fellow hotelier Jordi Clos, who until then held the vice presidency of the entity.

It was at that time, as La Vanguardia reported, that the appointment of Mateu Hernández as general director was already proposed, a position that had been vacant since the dismissal of Marian Muro in September of last year. Muro's departure sparked an internal crisis in Turisme de Barcelona. A selection process for candidates for general director was opened, which identified Mateu Hernández as the best placed. But, the president of the entity Eduard Torres did not see this name as appropriate and decided to also assume the role of general management.

Mateu Hernández Hernández comes from Barcelona Global, an organization of which he was founder and general director. He studied a degree in Law at the University of Barcelona and completed a master's degree in Public and Social Policies at UPF with Johns Hopkins University. Until now he has worked for the international business development of Casa Batlló.
