Tory Crispin Blunt arrested for alleged rape and drug possession

The veteran MP of the British Conservative Party Crispin Blunt has been arrested on suspicion of rape, as he himself confirmed this Thursday.

The Tory politician, uncle of actress Emily Blunt, made the arrest public after The Guardian and The Sun newspapers revealed the case without citing the identity of the parliamentarian in question.

Both newspapers point out that the same MP, who was Secretary of State for Prisons in David Cameron's Government, is being investigated for alleged drug possession.

"It has been reported that a deputy was arrested yesterday in connection with a rape allegation. I confirm that that deputy was me," Blunt, 63, said on social media site X.

The politician, who suggests that he is the victim of "extortion", explained that he has been interrogated twice in relation to the case, the first three weeks ago and the second yesterday, under arrest.

The arrest "was unnecessary, because I remain willing to cooperate fully with the investigation, which I trust will end without charges," he said.

Blunt's private life hit the media in 2010, when he announced his homosexuality and that he was separating from his wife.

The accusation is one more in the chain of cases linked to alleged sexual assaults committed by British deputies in recent years.

Another serving Conservative MP, whose name cannot be revealed for legal reasons, was also in custody in May 2022 on suspicion of sexual assault and rape, although he has not been formally charged so far.

Two other Tories have recently been sentenced: Charlie Elphicke, sentenced to two years in prison in 2020 for three counts of sexual assault against two women, and Imran Ahmad Khan, who received 18 months in prison for assaulting a 15-year-old boy. .

In June this year, Labor's Geraint Davies was suspended by his party after being accused of inappropriate behavior by several colleagues.

Earlier this week, MP Peter Bone was expelled from the Conservative parliamentary group for abusive behavior and for having "indecently exposed himself" to a former employee of his in a hotel.
