Together debate how to break or stay in the Government

Decisive hours at the headquarters of Junts per Catalunya, in Barcelona's Eixample. The leadership of the party has been debating since this morning what steps to take after the dismissal of the former vice president of the Government, Jordi Puigneró, and whether it is convenient to leave the Catalan Executive or remain in it. At noon the leaders of the formation have paused to eat and will continue during the afternoon today with the internal debate.

In any case, any decision that is taken, as planned, will be submitted to the judgment of the militancy in a consultation that still has no date or question. This was detailed when leaving the building during the game by the former minister Damià Calvet, now president of the Port of Barcelona.

The date that is chosen for the militants to pronounce on how to proceed is not trivial and neither is the question that is raised. These decisions fall on the executive and are some of the issues discussed in today's meeting.

Puigneró was dismissed yesterday by Aragonès after the Junts group demanded that the president submit to a matter of confidence in Parliament if he does not comply with the legislature agreement that Esquerra and JxCat sealed in May 2021. It was during the intervention of Albert Batet, president of the group in the Chamber. Very few people in the leadership of the formation were aware that this proposal was going to be made and Puigneró was one of them, according to various sources. Therefore, the chief executive dismissed him.

This entire episode may speed up events in the post-convergence formation, which had already planned since last summer's congress to consult members about their role in the Government. However, there are various voices that advocate not breaking with ERC, since the costs of doing so are greater than the benefits in various aspects. Especially less than a year before the municipal elections of 2023. The formation could be blurred in the Parliament and would lose much influence in the administration.

All these questions are the ones that are being analyzed in the executive meeting that began after 10:00. The Ministers also participate in it, except for the Minister of Health, Josep Maria Argimon, who is independent, and that of Acció Exterior i Govern Obert, Victòria Alsina, who is on a trip to Geneva. Puigneró also planned to go to the Swiss city but after his dismissal he has not traveled. In all this matter, the story is also taken into account and how each actor is left after the crisis unleashed. A bravas breakup could leave Junts in a bad place.

Among the firm supporters of remaining in the Government there are some members of the Government such as Jaume Giró, Minister of Economy and Finance, or Victòria Alsina, who has spoken in public to that effect. Also the most pragmatic figures, as ex-counselor Damià Calvet can be.

Another of the fronts that will open, if Junts advocates continuing in the coalition Government, is who replaces Puigneró in the ministry of Digital Policies and Territory and who assumes the vice presidency. The president of the Parliament, Laura Borràs, has ruled out this Jew in Onda Cero.

As an anecdote, in the afternoon a trio of mariachis came to the training headquarters to sing the song 'La Cucaracha', but since the game they have been dissuaded and they have not gotten to sing. They have assured that they would return later.
