Threat of resignation en bloc in the leadership of the ANC

Not even with steel staples does it seem that the Catalan National Assembly (ANC) will be able to sew up the crack. The entity faces a meeting of its leadership this Saturday in which the critical sector, which opposed acting diligently on January 28 to form the civic list for the next elections to Parliament, is considering resigning. It is not a small thing, since there are about twenty members of the 68 that make up the national secretariat who are evaluating it.

In addition, grouped in a recently created current, Col·lectiu Indesinenter, they could also raise the resignation of the president of the ANC, Dolors Feliu, at this meeting. They criticize her ways of doing it, in addition to maneuvering to impose and speed up the creation of the civic list. Critics believe that the roadmap establishes that before embarking on this adventure of another independence candidate at stake, it is necessary to analyze whether or not it is appropriate. They also denounce "authoritarianism" and a lack of internal democracy in the secretariat, but above all in the permanent committee, the body of 12 members of the management that manages day-to-day work and where, among others, the president and vice president are.

Still, the situation is delicate. If the critics finally end up demanding that Feliu cease, it would be the first time that a similar request has been formalized in the ANC from the secretariat itself. During the terms of Carme Forcadell, Jordi Sànchez or Elisenda Paluzie, it had never happened.

If, on the contrary, the promoters of the remodeling of the leadership of the Assembly end up leaving it, their intention, say sources, is to force elections in the secretariat. The last ones were just nine months ago. Terms are two years.

Be that as it may, from the ANC they relativize everything that is happening. They assure that they do not have the perception of a split within the organization and that in view of the meeting of the secretariat on Saturday they still do not know the terms with which the critics will address themselves. But they regret that the content of the last meetings of the leadership has been made publicly public. "When they take office, all the secretaries sign a confidentiality agreement," they recall.

The ANC sent a statement yesterday afternoon. Faced with accusations of undemocratic functioning of his secretariat, he affirms that the statutes "guarantee several mechanisms of internal democracy", that the members of the permanent committee "are chosen democratically among all the secretaries" and that all decisions are made in accordance with the sheet route approved each year by the partners.
