The Murcian Athenea Pérez (27 years old) has become Miss Universe Spain 2023 this weekend, the pageant that distinguishes the most beautiful woman in our country. Pérez has been chosen among the 17 most beautiful women in Spain in Costa Adeje (Tenerife), where the last edition was held and she will be our representative for Miss Universe, which will be held in the first quarter of 2024.
If there is something that characterizes Pérez, it is his fight, tenacity and vindication of his skin color, for which he has received racist attacks. "You have nothing from Murcia" or "you are more suitable for Miss Morocco", were some of the softest phrases that she received through social networks.
Born to a Murcian father and an Equatorial Guinean mother, Pérez admits that he was shocked when he received all those attacks: "I have lived in Murcia all my life. I know my skin tone, but I don't realize it. I naturalize it, so when I saw I was surprised by all these comments. I'm not used to seeing myself differently," she explained in an interview with La7.
"I cannot be more Murcian, if I am from churra" and "half a muleña", joked Miss Universe Spain 2023, who will now represent our country in the international pageant. And she ended by remembering that our society is increasingly "more diverse" and that enriches it.
"What need is there to point to me? I love my city, I love being from here and I carry the name of the region as a flag," said the young model in her interview.
