Former Minister and MEP Clara Ponsatí was arrested this Tuesday in Barcelona, hours after she returned to Catalonia after five years living abroad.
Ponsatí's arrest occurred after the end of a press conference by the Junts MEP accompanied by her lawyer, Gonzalo Boye, in the heart of Barcelona, very close to the cathedral of the Catalan capital.
After concluding their appearance, Ponsatí and Boye have walked through the streets of Barcelona surrounded by journalists, as it was already expected that they could be arrested. And finally, it was a Mossos agent dressed in plain clothes who appeared on the scene and arrested Ponsatí, something that everyone present witnessed and recorded.
Before the Mossos d'Esquadra agent appeared, Clara Ponsatí showed him her MEP card and reminded him that he has immunity, to which the Mosso replied "yes, but we also have an arrest warrant from the Court Supreme".
It should be remembered that despite her return to Catalonia and although there was an arrest warrant for her, Ponsatí has not voluntarily turned herself in to the authorities, so her arrest seemed more than likely.
After reminding Ponsatí of the arrest warrant for her, the Mossos agent asked her "kindly" if they could speak in a quieter place, to which the former minister replied: "I remind you that you are trying to arrest a MEP who has immunity." "Are you sure you want to do this?" she has asked him, to which the policeman has answered that "and so much that yes".
In the middle of this conversation, some of those present have criticized the attitude of the mosso and have shouted some slogans such as: "Leave Clara!", "Don't touch her!" or "freedom".
Finally, in the recorded images, it can be seen how Ponsatí and Boye speak and the ex-minister agrees to accompany the police officer and, later, enters a Mossos d'Esquadra car, resulting in her arrest.
