They warn of the "worrying increase" in sexual crimes by minors under 14 years of age

"In Valencia, minors who had not turned 14 committed more crimes of sexual abuse than young people in the 16 and 17 age group." The senior prosecutor of the Valencian Community, Teresa Gisbert, said it today in the Valencian Courts, where she appeared to present the prosecutor's report for 2023 with data from 2022. For Gisbert, education is "the only way to prevent "this type of action, and it is necessary to adopt "very urgent" measures.

Teresa Gisbert, who for many years was responsible for the minors area of the Valencia prosecutor's office, has not hidden her concern about the "worrying increase" in crimes against sexual freedom committed by minors, and especially by minors under 14 years, "a common problem throughout Spain" and to which he has proposed "a state education plan." In her memory, which she has made known, 25 crimes of sexual abuse and 15 of sexual assault were committed in Alicante; in Valencia 18 for sexual assault and 47 for abuse, and in Castellón there were a total of 3.

The prosecutor has reasoned that among the factors that influence this type of criminal behavior among children are the lack of adequate emotional and sexual training "and early access to pornography." A consumption of content at a very young age "that leads to trivializing violent behavior and having a wrong conception of free and consensual sexual relations, which is why it has been proposed that an education plan be created at the state level."

Asked if she is in favor of lowering the criminal age of minors, she considered that what should be a re-educational protection procedure for minors under 14 years of age who commit serious crimes, with the intervention of the prosecutor and the juvenile judge and the technical team. , in which a mandatory sentence is issued.

With regard to gender violence, it has defended the need for specialization of jurisdiction in this matter at all levels, "from the bottom to the top", with criminal courts and a courtroom specialized in violence against women. women.

In the case of domestic violence, he has indicated that the treatment that older people receive in some residences is worrying, as well as the behavior of family members when visiting these centers, in which there may be abuse or coercion due to economic issues.

The prosecutor has insisted on the need to have more resources, since in 2023 there has been "a negative change" in the reinforcements of officials and there has been a decrease due to the reduction of the Ministry's budget, although she hopes that in the commission mixed on the 28th the situation can be alleviated.

When asked by Vox, Gisbert explained that there is no record of the nationalities of people who commit crimes, because "there are no crimes committed by nationalities, there are crimes committed by people, period."

The commission meeting has been interrupted to observe a minute of silence at the doors of Les Corts for the murder of two civil guards in Barbate, about which the prosecutor has said that more resources are needed and has regretted "the price they pay "the agents for serving "the security of all Spaniards"
