The Spanish Police investigate the theft of a briefcase with more than 3,500 euros from a diplomat from the Iraqi embassy in Madrid, from whom the thieves punctured a tire on his car so that he would stop and be able to take away his belongings.

The event occurred last Friday, when the diplomat left the legation and went with his vehicle to a bank branch, according to the newspaper El Mundo and police sources confirmed to EFE.

The 43-year-old Iraqi took some 2,600 euros and 1,100 dollars from the bank, money that he put in a briefcase, where he also kept documentation and the keys to some embassy safes.

Shortly after getting back in the car, he noticed that one of the tires might be flat, so he decided to stop at a nearby gas station.

When he was about to change the tire, the diplomat realized that one of the car doors was open and his briefcase had disappeared.

Neither he nor the service station staff were able to observe any suspicious person in the vicinity, although the Police believe that it was an assault by the 'prick' method. It consists of disabling a wheel so that the victim is distracted and take advantage of the situation to commit the robbery.
