The medieval town of Peramea, which is part of the area of Baix Pallars, has been declared a Cultural Property of National Interest. The first documents that speak of the town are from the 11th century and it still retains a large part of the medieval structure, such as the remains of the castle, the church of Sant Cristòfol and the Tower of Colomers.
The Tower, of great historical and sentimental value for the residents of the town, will now be reformed to make it visitable. In this way, this space can be integrated into the guided tours that are already carried out in the municipality. Prior to these adaptation works, a preventive archaeological campaign has been carried out with the aim of documenting and preserving all possible remains.
The archaeological excavation has focused on the interior of the Tower and has made a level on the outside to document older levels. The archaeologist Xavi Sánchez has explained that it is a preventive excavation that has not provided much information beyond some ceramic pieces and a 19th century coin.
Once the archaeological campaign is over, the City Council may begin to carry out the necessary actions to adapt the space so that it can be visited with all the security guarantees. The Tower is located a few meters from the town of Peramea on a hill where you can see the entire town.
Anna Sentinella, mayor of Baix Pallars, has explained that the Torre de Colors is a space of high symbolic value for the residents of the town and with an important heritage value.
The Tower is a subsidiary of the Castell de Peramea, of which there are no documentary news. It is a circular construction, with a diameter of 4 meters and walls about one meter thick. It is currently in rather poor condition and none of the walls that remain standing are more than three meters high.
