Being in possession of a driving license is an increasingly relevant condition in the world of work. In an environment where mobility and flexibility are essential, having this license has become an important asset to obtain employment and advance in one's professional career. However, getting the license is not a simple task, since on the one hand it takes time, at least two or three months if everything goes well, on the other it is necessary to make an outlay of between 600 and 1,600 euros, according to the Organization. of Consumers and Users (OCU).
For this reason, some autonomous communities, councils and town councils offer financial aid to obtain the license. There is also the option of requesting a loan to help you get your driving license, with the advantage that there is no interest involved, which makes access to this valuable tool easier. In many cases, these subsidies and aid are aimed at young people, the unemployed and people without resources, as we will see below.
The Madrid region has various aid programs related to mobility in place. In addition to offering subsidies to purchase goods vehicles, electric bicycles and scooters and enabling electric charging infrastructure, the government of Isabel Díaz Ayuso also provides a subsidy of 600 euros for those drivers interested in obtaining category C driving licenses (trucks). , D (buses) and C E (trucks with trailer).
In all three cases these are professional categories and it is required to be in possession of a type B permit, for a car, to access the aid. The aid is aimed at both unemployed people - who must be registered in the community's Employment Offices - and active residents or those working in the Madrid region.
The 600 euros of financial aid that applicants receive cover the costs related to registration, study materials, 20 hours of theoretical training and 10 half-hour classes on maneuvers and/or circulation
Young people between 16 and 30 years old registered in Cantabria can access aid of 200 euros to obtain a class B driving license (car) and any professional permit. To access the subsidy, which is received once the card is obtained, applicants must not exceed certain income limits, unless they belong to large families, in which case different criteria apply. In addition, you must be enrolled in a driving school in the region.
La Rioja offers young people in the region interest-free loans to pay the amount of classes and traffic fees to obtain a driver's license. The loans (up to 2,000 euros for a car license and up to 3,000 euros for each of the professional driving licenses) are aimed at young people between 18 and 30 years old with at least five years of residence in the community.
In addition, the applicant must be in possession of the Youth License and have not previously taken the exam to obtain the driving license they intend to obtain.
The town council of this town in the province of Bizkaia offers aid of 100 euros to those young people between 17 and 23 years old who take the theoretical exam in Basque. This line of subsidy, endowed with 4,000 euros, is part of an aid plan to promote the use of Basque. The subsidy must be requested after having passed the exam and it is essential to have completed the preparation for the theoretical exam at one of the Getxo driving schools participating in the campaign.
Until recently, the autonomous communities of Galicia and the Region of Murcia, as well as the Provincial Council of Valladolid and the city council of Malaga, offered aid for obtaining a driving license. Currently, however, none of these administrations have a subsidy line open in the field of mobility.
The Xunta de Galicia closed its last call in October 2022 and has not opened a new line of subsidies, contrary to what its president, Alfonso Rueda, announced last January. The aid was aimed at young people between 18 and 30 years old to obtain the B license (car) -400 euros-, C license (truck) -650 euros- and D license (bus) -1,300 euros-.
In Murcia, from June 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021, a maximum of 400 people accessed aid of 125 euros each to obtain any type of card.
For its part, the Valladolid Provincial Council designed an aid plan aimed at women residents in towns with less than 20,000 inhabitants who would like to get a driving license for the first time. The subsidies ranged from 700 euros for a car license to 700 euros for a truck or bus license. The call ended on June 30.
Finally, on July 31, Malaga City Council closed the 'Málaga Drive' program that offered 100 euros in aid to young people between 18 and 35 years old residing in the city who had obtained any type of driving license between August 1, 2022 and July 31, 2023.
