The weapons that have changed the Ukraine war

The counter-offensive of the Ukrainian army in the Kharkiv metropolitan area, which has achieved the recovery of around 3,000 square kilometers hitherto under the control of Russian forces, is a military success for Kyiv that has caught even a part of the of Western analysts. The good use of the material delivered to the Ukrainians by the United States and its, for the moment, unstoppable replacement rate largely explains these significant advances in the theater of operations. There are at least three weapons that have made the advance much easier: the M777 howitzer and Excalibur ammunition, the AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missile, and the Himars medium-range rocket launcher system.

Ukrainian President Volodomir Zelensky has emphasized from the beginning of the war that the West must help his country with powerful weapons in order to resist and push back the Russian invaders. The NATO countries are sending weapons, in some cases very advanced, but of a short and medium range, because they fear that if this material were used massively against Russian territory, the escalation could be unpredictable.

However, the contributions being made by countries such as the United States –mainly-, but also Canada or the United Kingdom to point out some of the largest donors, seem to be setting new milestones on the ground.

This arms triad is one of the bases on which the Ukrainian counteroffensive in Kharkiv rests. Its support, without a doubt, will last as long as Western aid does not decline, since it is mainly nourished by it in everything in the technological field that gives it a certain advantage.
