The wages of port workers are double the average for the Valencian Community

The port cluster pays its employees well above the average for the Valencian Community. Passenger transport companies, provisioners, stowage, etc. whose employees are better paid than in the rest of the territory and which is another of the positive faces that figures in hand boast in the sector.

It is included in the economic and social impact study of Valenciaport, which among other things concludes that the gross salaries of port companies are above 50,000 euros and, according to the report, are more than double the average for the Valencian Community. , which is around 23,400 euros gross per year, according to the INE (2021).

For example, in the collective labor agreement of the sector of shipping companies, ship agents and stevedores in the province of Valencia in force between 2021 and 2023, the salary tables are located in 2023 between 1,250.81 for group V (apprentices) and 2,246.15 from group I (general management, office management and department management positions).

The study also points out that its "drag effect" means that the salaries directly or indirectly derived from the activity of Valenciaport remain above the Valencian average, standing at around 30,000 euros gross per year.

In total, the activities linked to the Valencian ports generate, with data from 2019, 49,280 jobs: 17,973 jobs are of direct effect, 11,606 of indirect effect, 7,904 of initial effect and 11,797 of induced effect. In addition, its multiplier effect stands out, since for every job created in the port area, another five are generated in the Valencian Community as a whole.

These jobs are generated in a very different offer from companies in the sector, among which the consignees are the majority, since they represent 20%. Stowage companies are 8% of the total, while those of customs agents are 5% and official inspection bodies, 4%. The rest of the companies are divided into mooring (3%), customs (1%), Maritime Captaincy (1%), passenger transport (1%), tugboats (1%), provisioners (1%), pilots (3% ), transients (13%), and other transport and communication companies (11%), among others.
