The Vandellòs II nuclear plant suffers an unscheduled stoppage due to the loss of electricity supply

The Vandellós II nuclear power plant (Tarragona) has communicated this Monday to the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN), following the regulatory procedure, the unscheduled shutdown of the plant due to a low level signal in the steam generators. According to local media, the event has had no impact on workers, the public or the environment.

This signal from the steam generators was due to the stoppage of several pumps in the secondary circuit as a result of the loss of their electrical power from one of the supply bars.

The security systems have worked as planned and the licensee has proceeded to restore power to the bar, after disconnecting from it the equipment that caused the electrical protections to act.

At the time of the notification, the plant was in hot standby mode, reactor stopped with nominal pressure and temperature conditions (mode 3) and today, at 09:50, it has been connected to the network.

With the information available at this time, it is initially classified as level 0 on the International Scale of Nuclear and Radiological Events (INES).
