The Valencian Consell is studying removing the linguistic requirement to teach some FP specialties

The Valencian Government is studying the possibility of eliminating the linguistic requirement for vocational training teachers in some specialties following a “common sense” criterion. The Minister of Education, José Antonio Rovira, confirmed at the end of his appearance in Les Corts the information provided by El Mundo about the possibility of lowering this requirement for teachers.

An “obligation” – in Rovira's own words – of having to accredit a C1 of Valencian that the PP extended, when in 2013 it governed with an absolute majority, to Secondary Vocational Training teachers and that now seems willing to change.

Rovira has pointed out that this change could be introduced through a legal modification since he understands that, for certain positions, it is not necessary to request Valencian if the subject is not going to be taught in that language. He has given as an example why a German teacher at the Official Language School has to know Valencian. And he has reiterated the idea of applying this requirement with common sense.

Sources from the department headed by Rovira have explained to La Vanguardia that the proposal involves eliminating this requirement in vocational training disciplines where the subject taught does not require the teacher who teaches it to have a university degree, for example, in modules such as hairdressing or mechanics and vehicle workshops.
