The United States imposes a negative covid test on travelers from China

As of January 5, all travelers from China who want to enter the United States will have to present a negative covid test carried out no more than two days before travel. This was decided this Wednesday by the Government of Joe Biden. The measure, applicable to everyone over 2 years of age, will come into force on January 5.

The US thus joins other countries that, such as Japan, India, South Korea or Taiwan, have imposed restrictions on the entry of travelers from China due to the strong outbreak of the virus in the Asian giant; a regrowth registered after the Government relaxed the severe anti-pandemic controls that it had imposed, in view of the strong citizen protests and the severe economic impact of the quarantine.

China, the most populous nation on the planet, is about to celebrate the Lunar New Year, which begins on January 22 and is usually the busiest travel season in the country. Not surprisingly, Beijing announced on Tuesday that it would resume issuing tourist passports for the first time since the start of the pandemic in 2020.

The Biden executive began lifting border barriers due to covid in September 2020, and ended the last mandate of travel restrictions last June. Health authorities continued, however, to recommend that people boarding flights to the US get tested close to departure time and not travel if sick.
