I have been able to portray for Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia this series of UFO-shaped wind clouds in this sky over the A-92 highway, in the Granada area.
The journey along this road, which connects the cities of Seville and Almería passing through Antequera, Granada and Guadix, has been decorated by these peculiar clouds, also colored with red.
The so-called wind clouds usually have shapes that attract our attention. The most characteristic are the lenticular, so called because they resemble a lentil, but also take the shape of a flying saucer or UFO, as well as converging lenses.
These clouds are stationary and form mainly at high altitudes in mountainous areas and isolated from other clouds. Among the mountaineers these clouds are considered a harbinger of a storm.
As a curiosity, glider pilots continually look for these types of clouds because the atmospheric system that forms them involves large vertical movements of air. And the precise location of the rising air is very easy to predict by looking at the orientation of the cloud.
