The Turkey Race returns in style, filling the center of Segovia

Segovia has returned to normality in one of its most traditional sporting events, which on Christmas morning has brought together thousands of people in the city center to witness the Carrera del Pavo, a peculiar cycling race where bicycles go without a chain . The mythical test has completed 87 editions this 2022.

This original competition consists of going as far as possible without pedaling and sixty athletes of all ages have taken part, including the winner of the 1988 Tour de France, Pedro Delgado, a regular in the race and who, as in editions previous ones was the most cheered by the spectators who on both sides of the street have enjoyed a different day.

They jumped one by one from the highest area of the Aqueduct to cross the Plaza del Azoguejo and inertially begin the climb up Calle Cervantes, and the runners were eliminated the moment they set foot on the ground.

The winner of this curious event was Hugo Sanz, undefeated in the last four editions, Marcos García and Miguel Martín occupied the second and third places on the podium. As is tradition, the winner took a turkey, the second classified a duck, and the third a pularda.
