The truckers' platform suspends the indefinite strike

36 hours of unemployment. The truckers have decided to suspend the indefinite conflict that started at midnight on Monday. After a day and a half of protest, in which distribution has not been affected, they put an end to their demands, as announced by the Platform for Transport in a statement. The board of directors accuses some politicians and the media of a campaign of harassment against freight transport professionals.

The organization's board of directors explains that "today, Tuesday, we have encountered inconceivable persecution, harassment and coercion by different authorities, where the right to strike and its corresponding information is not being respected, as protected by law by the organizers". The Government, which celebrates the decision to abandon the strike, replies that these truck drivers have no right to organize information pickets as it is not a strike. The few that have existed have been dissolved by the security forces and bodies.

Autonomous carriers use coarse terms when denouncing "the level of manipulation, the lack of freedom and the destructive machinery towards everything that does not agree with this rotten and corrupt system." They affirm that they will protest again and that they call off this strike so as not to put professionals at risk. They also mention that there have been "thousands of calls" to carriers "about the disproportionate threats of their shippers not to support this strike."

The strike, which threatened to block distribution again, has had hardly any incidents in these hours. The supply chain has worked like any other day, both Monday and Tuesday, and the violent events have been isolated.

The Government, which mobilized with a special police device, has today certified this normality. Damage has only been recorded in trucks in Peñaflor (Seville) and in three vans in Casabermeja (Málaga), as well as escort services by the National Police and the Civil Guard in ten operations involving a total of 39 vehicles.

The Government had turned on the alerts for possible incidents in the distribution centers and on the highways. But both Monday and Tuesday have been days when carriers who wanted to work were able to do so normally.

The large distribution confirms this "absolute normality". Mercadona, Carrefour, Dia or Alcampo, among others, who asked the Government to maintain this special device for the next few days, celebrate the carriers' decision.

The organization that called the strike demonstrated yesterday in Madrid to try to show off its muscle, but only a few hundred people responded to the call. The protest was not the one in March. The Platform even stated that they were going to be received by the Secretary of State for Transport, Isabel Pardo de Vera, a version that sources from the ministry deny.

The organizers of the strike met in the afternoon in the vicinity of the Metropolitan Stadium to specify the next steps. Its leader, Manuel Hernández, went so far as to say that they do not rule out raising the pitch of their demands, with slow truck marches or road blockades. "Everything is possible. We are not going to be fooled, let it be very clear, ”he warned. Today, after just 36 hours of unemployment, they call off the protests and return to their jobs.
