The tense clash of María Jiménez with a young Ana Rosa Quintana who revolutionized television

María Jiménez died this morning, at the age of 73, surrounded by her loved ones at her home in Triana (Seville). This was communicated by the family through the Europa Press agency, without specifying the causes of her death. With Jiménez we are leaving an actress, singer and dancer of race and a lot of character.

So much so that, since the news of his death was released, one of his most notorious clashes has gone viral: when he confronted a young Ana Rosa Quintana in a phone call, whom he accused of paying "characters ” so that they spoke ill of her. What happened on that set is already television history.

It all happened in January 2004, almost 20 years ago, and when Ana Rosa Quintana was still working at Antena 3 Televisión presenting her well-known evening magazine Sabor a ti. At that stage, the journalist had become one of the most popular presenters in our country.

For her part, María Jiménez, at 54, had become one of the most controversial characters in the public sphere and used to give a lot of play as a guest on television sets, mainly those dedicated to the subject of the heart. Returning to the day of the case, Jiménez called the Quintan program angrily.

The reason: the statements of some guests who did not leave the bailaora in a good place. So, Jiménez did not hesitate to lash out hard against the presenter, casting doubt on the reason why she had gotten her job and reached so high. “Who did you have to suck to be where you are?”, the bailaora reproached him in a very bad way.

To which, astonished, Quintana replies without any consideration: “Let's see, we are all getting confused here. I have studied journalism for five years, I have been a correspondent in New York, I have done many things to get to where I am”.

But Ana Rosa's explanations did not convince a very angry María Jiménez at all, who snapped at her: "And what are your studies worth to me, if you don't have a professional education?" And she reproached him with the most nervousness: “You are paying all these characters by speaking ill of me. I'm fed up with it. Shall I tell you who you sucked to get where you are?

This outburst of the bailaora, from which a young Ana Rosa Quintana managed to emerge gracefully, is television history, and now, after her death, it gives us an understanding of the strong character of this iconic character.
