The strike returns to Ryanair with new cancellations and delays

The Ryanair cabin crew strike disrupted activity again this Monday. The workers will extend the protest, called by the USO and Sitcpla unions, until Thursday in a series of strikes that will be repeated until January 2023.

Until 11.00 there had been 6 cancellations, according to data compiled by USO. The most affected is Barcelona airport, with 4 of them. These are two round trip routes with Milan and Rome. The other two canceled flights are the route Palma de Mallorca-Hamburg and Hamburg-Palma de Mallorca.

In the chapter on delays, Palma de Mallorca is the most affected airport, with 19 delayed departures or arrivals. It is followed by El Prat (14), Malaga (12), Madrid (8), Alicante and Ibiza (7). There are also affectations in Santiago, Valencia, Seville and Girona, the rest of the company's Spanish bases.

With the strike they want to put pressure on the firm led by Michael O'Leary to negotiate a new collective agreement for the entire workforce, "in accordance with Spanish labor legislation", Mónica Ortega, spokesperson for USO-Ryanair in the base of El Prat.

The new agreement seeks to improve the working and salary conditions of the workforce, recovering pre-covid levels. Likewise, the reinstatement of 15 crew members who would have been fired for participating in the strikes is requested. The company has warned that they will not sit down to negotiate with the unions that have called the protest. "We still have no news from the company, they continue to refuse to negotiate with USO and Sitcpla. We will continue with our strikes until the company sits down to negotiate," Ortega said.

During the strike, the Government has set minimum services that range from 68% to 85% on domestic flights to or from the islands, and from 36% to 60% on peninsular flights whose travel time on public transport is equal to or greater than 5 hours and international flights.

As for peninsular national flights whose travel time on public transport is less than 5 hours, which at the moment during the strike days are scheduled only in Barcelona, the minimum services range between 34% and 38%.

Apart from Ryanair, strikes by Easyjet pilots are also planned between Friday, August 19 and Sunday, August 21.
