The strike at Ryanair continues: flights canceled today Wednesday

The crew of Ryanair carry out today Wednesday a new day of strikes in the Spanish airports. As in the previous days, the incidence remains limited. As of 9 a.m., 9 flights have been canceled and more than 40 have been delayed.

According to data from the USO union, organizer of the strike together with Sitcpla, the most affected airports are again those of Barcelona and Palma. At the Catalan airport, departures or arrivals from Brussels, Milan and London are suspended. Also on the route between Madrid and Palma and a Dusseldorf-Málaga.

In the case of delays, El Prat is also the one that suffers the most, with 10, by 8 in Madrid and Malaga -more than in previous days at first hour- and Palma (5). There are also delays in Seville, Valencia, Alicante, Santiago de Compostela and Ibiza.

The status of Ryanair flights can be consulted at this link on the company's portal. As an alternative, it can be checked on the Aena Infovuelos portal.

The strikes will continue until the end of the week. At Ryanair strikes are called until tomorrow while Easyjet crews have scheduled strikes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

According to sources from the USO union, the protests are due to the discomfort of the crew, who demand the application of the collective agreement in force in Spain: 14 salary payments, 22 working days of vacation (and not 20 as Ryanair establishes) or abolish the model of subcontracting through agencies of the same group, among other issues.

The union has denounced the dismissal of 11 crew members during the protest, "for exercising their constitutional right to strike."

In the event that travelers are affected by a cancellation of their flight due to the strike, they can exercise their rights to demand compensation. If the cancellation is the responsibility of the company -in the case of a strike it is- they can claim the compensation included in the 2004 European Regulation on the rights of airline passengers, which in this case provides compensation of between 250 and 600 euros if the cancellation has not been communicated within a minimum of 14 days.
