The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge of the Spanish State has fined the City Council of Badalona (Barcelonès Nord) with 18,000 euros since the previous municipal government installed last March without permission the giant letters with the name of the municipality on the Paseo Marítimo, next to the port area of ??the city.

As it is a maritime-terrestrial public domain area, the Ministry, which is the competent authority, had not authorized its installation. In the resolution of the disciplinary file by the coastal legislation attributed to the Badalona City Council, in addition to imposing the economic sanction that increases every day by 200 euros since last April 6 -the moment in which the inspectors certified its installation-, it also obliges its withdrawal within a maximum period of 10 days.

The mayor of Badalona, ??Xavier Garcia Albiol, has lamented that: “The electoral rush of the previous Government led to irregular decisions being made that, in addition, have economic damage for all the residents of Badalona.”

The mayor also wanted to point out that: “The previous municipal government was more concerned with campaigning than with managing the resources of all the neighbors and now we must all pay for their negligence.” The mayor has already given the instruction to proceed with the removal of the letters and put a stop to the fine that increases every day that happens with the letters installed at 200 euros.

For their part, sources from the former executive clarify that the request was submitted to the Generalitat, competent in this area of ??the maritime-land section since it is a port affectation, on May 13. The General Directorate of Mountain and Coastal Policies responded that the concession for the beach facilities belongs to the Barcelona Metropolitan Area, to whom the city council contacted and awaited their response.
