The start-up that lives off airport chaos

After two years of very low activity due to the covid pandemic, chaos at airports has returned with a vengeance and, with it, claims for delays, cancellations, overbooking and lost luggage. This bad news for air passengers is not so bad for the Reclamio start-up, specialized in managing this type of claim.

"Air activity has fully recovered since Easter, which has led us to double our turnover in the first half of the year, to 2.5 million euros," explains Noemí Fernández, manager of the emerging company. "This summer, the increased traffic has been compounded by personnel problems and strikes at different airlines, which could lead us to close the year with a turnover of six million euros," adds the manager of this emerging company based in Sabadell and a team of ten people.

Reclamio was created in 2017 by Infinitum, a company dedicated to investing in and promoting start-ups specializing in the digitization of legal processes. Its promoters are Jordi Mercader and Toni Raurich, who founded the company with the aim of helping travelers to make their claims. In this time, they have recovered nearly 13 million euros in compensation from some 75,000 travellers.

“Airlines tend to take advantage of the ignorance of passengers who, in many cases, do not know that in addition to receiving a solution to their problem (new flight, refund…) they are also entitled to compensation of up to 600 euros in cancellations and delays and of up to 1,587 euros in lost luggage. In practice, 89% of passengers do not claim their compensation”, indicates Fernández.

Reclamio's main markets are Spain and France, but the company has already started operating in Italy, Germany, Portugal and Luxembourg.
