The Spanish version of the musical 'Pretty woman' premieres in Barcelona

Although comparisons are always hateful, Roger Berruezo and Cristina Llorente are delighted to put themselves in the shoes of the protagonists of Pretty Woman in its musical adaptation. On September 22, the Spanish version of this Veniu Fama production will premiere at the Apolo theater in Barcelona and will stop in Madrid in 12 months.

With music and lyrics by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance and book by Garry Marshall and J.F. Lawton, the musical “goes beyond the film, it is one of its successes, because it is a complete theatrical adaptation”, declares Rubén Yuste, the actor who plays the hotel manager: “I give life to a glue character, a kind of fairy godfather who makes things happen”.

The musical, based on the highly successful 1990 film, opened on Broadway in 2018, and is named after the Roy Orbison song from 1964.

The Valladolid actress Cristina Llorente assures that, when she learned about the casting, she was the first to send the curriculum, "pursuing the dream of this empowered woman, who makes her decisions and ends up saving the protagonist."

“Life consists of dreaming. If we don't have dreams, we are nobody”, says Carline Brower, the Dutch director who also signs the production that is currently being shown in Milan.

The show has 22 performers and six live musicians. Its musical director, Arnau Vilà, concludes that “the songs are very well integrated into the plot”.
