The Spanish Government predisposed to return the Can Martí estate to the town of Llavaneres

The spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana in the Senate, Mirella Cortès, has demanded from the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, the return to the Sant Andreu de Llavaneres (Maresme) City Council of the Torre Martí building, also known as Cal Capità General, located at number 1 Passeig de la Riera, which was ceded in 1936 by its owner to the municipality to be used for educational and cultural facilities, but later seized by the Franco regime. It is currently owned by the land army and a summer residence for senior military commanders.

In response to the Republican request, the minister has ensured that the property is registered as state property and has shown "total willingness" to study the transfer to the town of Sant Andreu de Llavaneres once it is not being used as equipment for the " national defense".

The Llavaneres City Council itself, whose institutional representation that attended the plenary session of the Senate yesterday, was chaired by the Republican mayor, Nani Mora, had already registered with the Delegation of the Spanish Government and the Ministry of Defense last September, the request for the free transfer in favor of the municipality "with the condition set by the donor in the deed of the year 1936", as Cortès reminded the minister.

In accordance with the legislation of that time, the building "acquired the legal qualification of a public domain asset for being used for a public service", as evidenced by the will and the first actions to convert it into an educational complex. Cortés has assured that the case "does not admit of discussion" from the moment that the Torre Martí, owned by Dr. Ricard Martí i Martí, was seized by the Franco regime to end up becoming a summer residence "for the enjoyment of a few military positions". .

The building, moreover, is more than accredited that "it has no function for the powers of the Ministry of Defense" and that the Llavaneres City Council has been demanding for decades. The location of the documentation that has confirmed its transfer to the municipality in 1936, and the reasons for which it was done, has ended up expediting the demand.

The Republican spokeswoman in the Senate has taken up the gauntlet of the Ministry of Defense, hoping that "the words and will expressed are positive" and that an agreement can be reached with the Sant Andreu City Council "so that this transfer becomes a reality as soon as as possible". The Llavaneres City Council will begin negotiations with the ministerial officials next January.
