The Socialists protest the hiring of the General Secretary's son as an usher

The answers given by the general secretary of the Parlament, Esther Andreu, on hiring her son as an usher, which were accepted by the president, Laura Borràs, who has not withdrawn her confidence, are insufficient for the PSC, whose representatives in the Table have presented a brief that forcefully questions the process that ended with the hiring of Jan Forner, Andreu's son, who obtained fourth place in the job market.

According to parliamentary sources, the PSC has raised with the Table, in which the socialists Assumpta Escarp sit as second vice president and Ferran Pedret as first secretary, that they do not consider the explanations of the general secretary adequate, who issued a statement a few days ago to try to defuse the controversy. The Socialists denounce that the Board was not informed of a possible conflict of interest in the hiring process, in which, according to Andreu, she was inhibited from the beginning.

At the same time, these sources assure, the PSC does not accept any responsibility for the writings that the Table received last week, sent by the general secretary and the Parliament's personnel services, to account for the selection process and defend its arguments , since the socialists consider that it can be understood that it was the same governing body that requested them to clarify the case.

In this sense, legal sources warn that the socialist preventions may be due to the fact that, beyond the possible administrative irregularities observed in the selection process of interim ushers, crimes such as influence peddling could be alleged, which could have criminal consequences of those that the PSC wants to completely distance itself from and those that it has warned the rest of the parties with representation in the Table, ERC, Junts and the CUP.

In its meeting this Tuesday, the Table has debated the brief presented by the two socialist members and has attached it to the minutes of the meeting, but for the moment the governing body of the Catalan Chamber has not made any decision on a situation that, according to consulted sources, is "indefensible" for the general secretary, Esther Andreu.

On the other hand, the members of the PSC, ERC and CUP Board have asked the President of the Parliament, Laura Borràs, to commission an external legal report to audit whether there was any irregularity in the selection process in which the son of the general secretary won an interim usher position.

Parliamentary sources consulted by the Efe agency have explained that the president has opposed "directly" the outsourcing of a legal report on this case because she considers that it would mean a "disavowal" of the Parliament's body of lawyers, which has led to a debate intense towards the end of the meeting.

Both the socialists and the republicans and the anti-capitalists defend that the analysis of the process should be done by someone from outside the Chamber because it affects the head of the parliamentary administration and, if the report is made by one of her subordinates, a conflict could arise of interests. Given the lack of agreement, the Table has been summoned to continue talking about the issue next week.
