The Sey Sisters bring their anti-sexist and anti-racist denunciation to their end of tour in Barcelona

The group of singers, of Ghanaian origin, The Sey Sisters will perform for the first time at the Mil lenni Festival and will take the opportunity to say goodbye to their fans at the end of their tour of the latest album We Got Your Back, released in 2021. The concert will have place next Thursday, December 22 at 8:00 p.m. in the Sala Apolo.

The Mil·lenni Festival was born more than twenty years ago with the idea of presenting meetings between international artists and having a varied program of different musical styles (lyrical, contemporary music, jazz, choral singing, electronic tango or pop). Despite the fact that the main venue is the Palau de la Música, the concerts are distributed in other venues in Barcelona such as L'Auditori, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Sala Apolo or Razzmatazz.

The Sey Sisters are the voices of three sisters (Kathy Sey, Yolanda Sey and Edna Sey), who sing in the name of the fight against racism and machismo through soul melodies and somewhat covered pop, impregnated with African sounds .

The Afro-descendant singers began the tour of their latest album We Got Your Back, dedicated to the fight for human rights, at the beginning of the year. “We want to reaffirm our anti-racist and feminist message. We want the message to accompany and help all victims. There is still a very long way to go and we must continue fighting. Our way of doing it is by singing”, says one of the interpreters of the group, Edna Sey, for La Vanguardia.

The Sey sisters were also victims of racist behavior. That is why they began to sing and denounce this cruelty, so that people who had gone through the same thing could feel identified and find their refuge in music.

In the words of the artist Edna Sey: “The problem of racist and sexist actions is found in the structure of the society we are living in. For this to change we have to be aware that we are all participating in injustices. First we must accept that we are doing things wrong to later be able to change attitudes - and she adds -. You have to understand history so as not to repeat the same mistakes.”

The final repertoire of the tour will be "with a different decoration" in which the public will get several surprises such as changes in the staging and some collaborations with other artists. “This end of tour will be accompanied by special touches and surprises. It is our gift to the public that will come to see us and a way of thanking the people who have trusted us and have always accompanied us”.

At the moment, Edna affirms that after this last concert of We Got Your Back they do not foresee any more tours or concerts. The singers will take advantage of 2023 to disconnect and focus on their personal projects.
