The sentence on Puigdemont's immunity will be known on July 5

The General Court of the European Union (TGUE) will issue on July 5 two key judgments on the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont, now MEP, and the other two Junts MEPs, former councilors Toni Comín and Clara Ponsatí.

The sentence of the TGUE, which is the first instance, comes after the hearings at the end of November last year. The court, which is based in Luxembourg, in fact, will hand down two rulings: one on the European Parliament's decision not to defend the Junts MEPs, and the other on immunity, which is the most important and the one that could reach have effects on an eventual return of the former president to Catalonia.

The European Parliament, in the process, alleged that Puigdemont accessed the seat of MEP "probably illegally" - after its then president, the ill-fated David Sassoli, allowed it after the ruling favorable to Oriol Junqueras of the European justice system in December 2019 –.

In the event that the sentence is adverse to the interests of the former Catalan president, he has the possibility of filing an appeal before the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), the second instance of community justice, which is also based in Luxembourg. and it already ruled in favor of maintaining his immunity on a precautionary basis just one year ago, in May of last year, and of nullifying the Euro-orders issued by instructor Pablo Llarena on a precautionary basis.

The investigating magistrate of the case of the process in the Supreme Court awaits the resolutions of the European courts to present new Euro-orders against the leaders of 1-O. In January, the CJEU resolved the preliminary rulings that Llarena raised regarding the Euro-orders, in a ruling that was read by all parties as favorable to their interests.

In any case, the court limited the ability of Belgium to deny the delivery of the former sovereignist leaders to Spain, after the Belgian justice had refused to extradite the former minister Lluís Puig. One of the conditions for not proceeding with the handover of those accused by 1-O –the answers were generic, valid for the 27 member states of the European Union– was that the people in question were part of an "objectively identifiable group". , as it is, in the opinion of the leaders of 1-O and the sovereignist formations, the independence movement.

Puigdemont has made an announcement on Twitter and the General Secretary of Junts, Jordi Turull, has announced it at a meeting of the formation in Vic, with which he puts the finishing touch on the campaign of the municipal elections. "It will be a party for all of Catalonia", said Turull, who has highlighted the persistence of the former president and has predicted that this will have a "prize".

The resolution of the European file of Puigdemont will also have repercussions within JxCat, which is waiting for the future of the former president to be clarified to begin to defoliate the daisy of the next candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat.
