The sculptural doors of Plensa already shine in the Liceu

Jaume Plensa today supervised the installation of the doors that the Liceu will display from September, coinciding with the return of operatic activity. Baptized with the name Constal·lacions, they intend to be a tribute to Joan Miró, whose Pla de l'Os mosaic unfolds right in front on the pavement of the Rambla.

The assembly has caught the attention of passersby who during the day were able to browse the work of placing the three stainless steel bars that weigh half a ton each and that will remain hidden behind a canvas until the day of the inauguration.

Plensa also wanted to highlight in this work, which adds a new attraction to the Rambla, the diversity of the promenade with the presence of letters from up to nine different alphabets (Greek, Hebrew, Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Tamil, Hindi, Chinese and Japanese). ), which appear intertwined.

The installation has been carried out respecting the historic façade of the Liceu, the work of the architect Oriol Mestres, which is not affected by the incorporation of the new element. When the great theater resumes activity, the doors will remain open during the day and will project an insinuating play of shadows. Instead, they will be closed at night.

With the bars of the renowned sculptor, the Liceu also intends to solve the security problems that may arise from time to time on the porch of the operatic temple at night, protecting its entrance.

The first date at the Liceu in September will be with Gustavo Dudamel on the 20th, who will conduct Beethoven's 'Ninth Symphony' with the Paris National Opera Orchestra. The opera will arrive a day later with the premiere of Donizetti's Don Pasquale.
