These images in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia show the Sau reservoir at 9% of its capacity, historical levels of extreme drought. Sad and bleak views.

The drought in Sau began to be felt when the church of Sant Romà was completely exposed. That was the first alarm signal, which worsened when the remains of the old town came into view, which, under normal conditions, should be submerged in the water of the reservoir.

Now, the little water that remains in the swamp will be transferred to Susqueda, making the landscape even more desert-like when this operation takes place.

At the same time, drought tourism has become a phenomenon in the Sau reservoir and, for this reason, the Barcelona Provincial Council has had to improve motorized access control, which was normally put into operation at Easter and in summer. .

In Catalonia, this week the declaration of exceptionality due to hydrological drought in the Ter-Llobregat system and in the Fluvià-Muga aquifer came into force.

The measure affects more than 200 municipalities with a population of about 6 million inhabitants. It implies restricting water to a maximum of 230 liters per person per day and other limitations, such as a 40% reduction for agricultural uses and 15% for industrial uses, as well as for recreational uses (15% for assimilable uses and 50% for irrigation ).
