The sad harvest of the drought

In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we can see these scenes of the harvest, with wind and rain clouds in the background, a rain that in the end did not come.

This has been the trend, days and days without rain, the drought that we have experienced and are living in Catalonia. This year has been disastrous for the cereals, because it rained late and the cereals were already well advanced.

I captured the images yesterday afternoon with wind and clouds in the background in Sant Julià Sassorba, which is the highest parish in the town of Gurb and which we see in the main photo of this report.

Sant Julià Sassorba is a Romanesque church that was consecrated in 1091. A good part of the raised nave remains of the original temple, adorned with Lombard arches, and the bell tower, reformed on its crown.

In 1572 a new portal was built and, in the 18th century, the old apse and two apses were removed in order to build a new presbytery. In addition, in 1993 the bell tower was restored.

My friend Jaume notified me so that I could do this report when he was going up with the combine to this beautiful elevated area to harvest this cereal field in the Osona region.
