The rocks super enchanted by the fog

As there was a lot of fog and poor visibility, this Sunday the Enchanted Rocks seemed more enchanted than ever, with a little more mystery, as seen in this report in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos.

The easiest way to get to the place where we find the Enchanted Rocks is the one that leaves from the sanctuary of Nostra Senyora de la Font de la Salut.

The landscape of the Enchanted Rocks, in Sant Feliu de Pallarols, in the Garrotxa region, is so unique that it has given rise to popular stories and legends.

One of the stories explains: "Back in the 15th century, the inhabitants of the farmhouses between Sant Feliu de Pallerols and Les Planes d'Hostoles lived in fear of the frequent earthquakes that precipitated huge rocks on their houses. They believed that all that was work of the devil, who lived in those mountains and threw rocks at their houses. They prayed to God to drive the demon out of there. God heard their prayers and sent an angel who chained the rocks of the mountain. Since the demon could no longer throw them more rocks, he ended up abandoning those mountains and going to cause misfortunes somewhere else.

It is not strange that these popular stories about the origin of the Enchanted Rocks are related to earthquakes, since we are in a volcanic area.

So much so that, between the 14th and 15th centuries, earthquakes of great intensity occurred. This is how large rocks were piled up on the slope of the mountain that overlooks Les Planes d'Hostoles.
