The risk of being the crutch

One of Dalí's symbols, which appears frequently in his work, is the crutch. Not the one to fight, but the one to walk. In The Secret Life of Salvador Dalí, the artist recounts the fascination he felt when he found one in the attic of his house in Figueres as a child: “I immediately appropriated the crutch and understood that I could never part with it again, such was the fanatic fetishism that took over me. The object gave me security and an arrogance hitherto unknown. Since then, it represents in me a symbol of death, but also of resurrection”.

Santiago Abascal is also obsessed with the idea of the crutch, not because of some fall from the past, but because of the vertigo of the present. Vox votes can give the government of a few communities and a lot of cities to the PP. But, above all, his support could be decisive for the victory of the right in the imminent general elections.

The Vox management does not want to give their support in exchange for anything, so they have had to hear from Feijóo that their only objective is to get armchairs. The parliamentary spokesman, Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, has responded indignantly that their help will not be free for the popular.

The situation is especially tense in Extremadura, where the PP candidate, María Guardiola, has won the same seats as the Socialist who chairs the Junta, Guillermo Fernández Vara, so Vox's votes are decisive. Guardiola was unknown when Pablo Casado put her in charge of the party in this community last year. Feijóo ratified it, despite the fact that she was a woman with her own ideas, which did not always coincide with the official doctrine.

Guardiola does not want the ultras in his government and has made it clear that no one from Madrid is going to tell Extremadurans what to do in their land. In the hall of the Assembly of Extremadura they should hang a reproduction of the painting El sueño, by Dalí, where a large head is supported by 12 crutches. Even the watching dog leans on another. The artist wanted to capture the fragility of the supports of reality. Those that bother Guardiola so much.
