The return of 'Suits' is already underway but not in the way fans expect

Suits are in fashion in the United States. We already talked about the phenomenon. Netflix put the first eight seasons in its catalog and, since then, it has broken streaming consumption records according to Nielsen, who measures audiences in the country. And, after producer Gene Klein acknowledged that he expected “a call at some point” to pick up the series “in this era of reboots and reunions and all this stuff,” the Suits return is already underway. Of course, not as fans possibly wish.

With the end of the writers' strike, the creator of Suits, Aaron Korsh, has been able to contact NBCUniversal, who produced the work between 2011 and 2019, to talk about the future. According to Deadline, they are still in the negotiation phase to clarify the economic conditions of the agreement. But, if it comes to fruition, the return of Suits would be placed as a priority in the studio so that it arrives as soon as possible and it cannot be ruled out that, instead of buying a single season, NBCUniversal would directly agree to produce more than one.

The resulting series, for the record, will hardly be a sequel with Gabriel Macht as Harvey Specter, Patrick J. Adams as Michael Ross, Rick Hoffman as Louie Litt, Sarah Rafferty as Donna Paulsen or Meghan Markle as Rachel Zane, whose signing seemed impossible due to having retired from the world of acting and now devoting herself solely to production with her husband, Prince Henry of England. It is also not expected to be a spin-off.

Korsh will simply create a new law office with similar characteristics, in the same way that CSI served as an excuse for the creation of CSI: Miami or CSI: New York or NCIS gave rise to NCIS: LA, NCIS: New Orleans or NCIS: Hawaii . And where will the firm set up shop with a new cast? It is not ruled out that in Los Angeles.

Now that Korsh has the upper hand, he can afford the whim of ordering a series in Los Angeles without having to move the team to Canada, as happened with the original series, to cut costs. It should be remembered that the Suits pilot was filmed in New York but the rest of the episodes were recorded in Toronto.

Suits was a viewing phenomenon in the United States and around the world with a different legal formula: Harvey Specter, a renowned lawyer known for being a shark in court, agreed to teach Michael Ross, a young man with a lot of talent but a diploma. fake. With touches of comedy, fast dialogue and sexual tensions in the law firm, Korsh conceived a legal series with as much pace as few court scenes: the cases were won from the offices.
